An open-source and feature-packed WhatsApp web client for Linux built on top of the Qt WebEngine. #WhatsApp Client #WhasApp Desktop #WhatsApp App #WhatsApp #Client #Qt
There's no shortage of so-called WhatsApp desktop clients. We say "so-called," because most of them don't really bring much in terms of functionality when compared to the standard WhatsApp Web.
To be more precise, the large majority of WhatsApp apps are simple wrappers that simply bring the functionality of WhatsApp Web to the desktop.
Thankfully, WhatSie is not just a boring WhatsApp Web wrapper.
WhatSie is, in fact, a feature-packed WhatsApp Web client for Linux. Besides the outstanding number of extra features it provides (when compared to the classic WhatsApp Web app), it's also based on the Qt WebEngine.
This means that it's fast, responsive, and it should go very well with most typical and popular Linux distributions and a wide range of desktop environments.
There are a couple of unique features that make WhatSie stand out from the crowd. These include a built-in download manager, an App Lock features (very useful for privacy), Hardware access permission manager, and a built-in spell checker (with support for some of the most popular languages out there).
You also get Light and Dark themes (with automatic switching), native notification support (with the ability to customize said notifications), keyboard shortcuts, and an option that allows you to fully mute the audio and disable the notifications.
That's not all that WhatSie offers. You also get a couple of neat little features meant to offer a bit more control over the whole WhatsApp experience. The app has a full view mode, an option that allows you to switch between native and custom notifications, configurable notification pop-up timeout, the option to disable auto-playback of media, changing the download location, and a configurable close button action, among many others.
Well, it might be perfect for some users, but with this level of features added on top of the existing WhatsApp Web functionality, the execution must be perfect.
One aspect that can prove tricky is the notification support. As far as we can tell, the native/custom notifications don't work out of the box, and may require you to manually enable them.
Taking everything into account, WhatSie is an impressive WhatsApp Web client for Linux. Sure, some of its unique features might not properly work on various desktop environments, but as far as the way the app works and its overall level of polish are concerned, WhatSie feels very close to what a native WhatsApp client might look like.
