After announcing last week the inclusion of an in-house built utility that notifies users of new updates for their systems, the SparkyLinux developers today announced the inclusion of the Tomb and Gtumb tools in the distro's repos.

Tomb is an open-source and 100% free command-line utility designed to make strong encryption easy to use, and Gtumb is a graphical user interface (GUI) for Tomb, allowing users to more easily backup their secret files and keep them away from hackers or people with malicious intent.

"Tomb generates encrypted storage folders to be opened and closed using their associated keyfiles, which are also protected with a password chosen by the user. A tomb is like a locked folder that can be safely transported and hidden in a filesystem," reads the program's description as quoted in today's announcement.

Both tools are now available for installation in SparkyLinux from the stable repositories. To install them, you'll have to open your favorite terminal emulator and run the following commands. After installation, you can execute the "man tomb" command to see a full list of options.

sudo apt update && sudo apt install tomb sudo apt update && sudo apt install gtomb In related news, the SparkyLinux developers were the first to rebase their GNU/Linux distribution on the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system. SparkyLinux 4.6 is now available in multiple flavors with the LXDE, Xfce and Openbox flavors for both 64-bit and 32-bit computers, which you can download right now from our website.
