ZevenOS, a Linux operating system with software optimized for slower computers and with elements of BeOS, has just reached version 4.0.

ZevenOS 4.0 is now based on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) and it's quite a leap from the previous version. It features a Linux kernel from the 3.0 series, which means an improved implementation of the EXT4 filesystem and new drivers.

The desktop also received an update. Xfce is now at version 4.8, adding network support for FTP/Samba/SSH/NFS to the default filemanager Thunar.

ZevenOS 4.0 comes with the Haiku-like design and with a completely updated icon theme and GTK3 theme.

Also, video editing now benefits from OpenShot 1.4, and Gnome-Mplayer is the default video player. To manage your music, the developers included the newest Deadbeef release.

A complete list of changes is available in the official announcement.
