For a few years now, rumors about a possible foray of Valve into the Linux platform have been floating around, but it seems that definitive proof is upon us.

According to Michael Larabel from phoronix.com, Valve is not only dabbling with a Linux version for Steam, but is also porting at least one of its games, Left for Dead 2.

Valve will not be the first digital distribution platform to have Linux support, as Desura is already firmly planted in the market, but they lack the power and the money to make a serious dent.

Once Valve will start releasing Linux games of their own, there will be an explosion of new “native" titles for Linux, much the same is now the case with Steam for the MacOS.

There are some images already with Left for Dead 2 in action, running natively on Linux so we can only hope for a 2012 release.
