A Valve official representative has asked the developer of Blender to consider the offer

Valve developers have reached out to the Blender Foundation for a collaboration project and they are trying to implement a simpler way of modding PC games for the regular users.

Blender is a free and very powerful, integrated 3D creation software suite that in theory could be used to modify game assets, in the same way the developers are building their games.

“I work for Valve We would like to make our digital distribution platform Steam one of the places where you can download Blender. The long-term goal would be to make it easier for people to build their own mods for PC games with Blender and share these mods with other gamers.”

“So I was wondering if there are any Blender users on this list who are interested in PC games and could see themselves working on an integration between Blender and PC games that offer official modding support such as DOTA 2,” stated Valve's Jan-Peter Ewert in the official Blender mailing list.

The idea of helping PC Steam users easily create PC mods is not new, but the technology has advanced enough that even complex applications such as Blender can be made more accessible.
