A new promotable image for Ubuntu Touch could be available soon

Canonical has released another two images for Ubuntu Touch, but unfortunately none of them was promoted to stable. Even so, a number of very important fixes have been implemented and they should land very soon in the next stable release.

Ubuntu Touch is under a feature freeze for now, but when that freeze is lifted we should start to see some important new changes land again. At least this is what the developers have promised us.

“Two images produced today with some blockers on the list. We continue landing as much as possible, knowing that today, we were low on free slots due to beta freeze. Once it this is lifted, we should back up to a normal landing speed,” said Canonical's Didier Roche.

The fixes may not seem like much, but they do take care of some important aspects. For example, a new gallery-app has been added to fix the previous blocker on the list, the address-book-app fix for contacts is not shown anymore, a number of performance tweaks have been implemented in the history-service to load less and more efficiently, and multiple packaging and platform fixes have been added.

Ubuntu developers have a series of automated and manual tests in place that allow them to scan for problems before releasing an image to the public.
