Developing Ubuntu Touch is not sufficient for Canonical, and the company needs to get the support of other major app developers. It seems that it is on the right track and a number of very big names have already shown their support.

In order for Ubuntu Touch to register any kind of serious success, the new operating system needs to have other big companies or developers making apps for it, enlarging the Ubuntu ecosystem.

“It is an exciting time for Ubuntu on phones, with the ecosystem growing positively. We are delighted to announce new partnerships across key app categories from those that bring entertainment and productivity, to developer tools as well as partners helping bring your apps to Ubuntu,” reads the announcement from Canonical.

So far, the new Canonical partners that have expressed their intentions of making applications for Ubuntu Touch are: Grooveshark, 8Tracks, Spinlet, Euronews, VLC, LastPass, AND Maps, and ICS.

These is most likely just the first wave of developers and more are bound to announce their support.
