A new image has been promoted by the Ubuntu developers

Canonical developers have managed to promote a new image for Ubuntu Touch and to update some of the old components, like the Dialer app.

Ubuntu for phones is becoming more stable and new applications arrive every day, but some of the older core apps, like the Dialer and Contacts, remained a little behind the general design. That has changed now, as the Dialer is using the folded background concept and the Contacts entry has been improved.

“There are some changes of interest in this image, one of which is the new design of address-book-app, dialer-app and messaging-app. This image also doesn't use the desktop translation files anymore - this means there might potentially be some applications that are be missing translations (like, for instance, the dialer-app). We apologize for any possible inconveniences. We assure you that those, if identified, will be fixed as soon as possible,” said Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak.

The two applications are not complete and they will certainly receive improvements very soon. For example, the dialer no longer identifies the contact based on the number dialed manually, but that's just a minor inconvenience.

The developers are also preparing to introduce a new version of Mir, 0.3, and that’s likely to cause some problems.

The first phones to be powered by Ubuntu Touch are expected to arrive this autumn from two smaller companies, Meizu and Bq.
