Ubuntu 13.10 for phones is the first operating system from Canonical that uses the Mir display server, and we’re now taking a closer look at the 100th build that has been released just a few days ago.

Canonical can't seem to make up its mind about the name of the new operating system, Ubuntu Touch. It is also referred at as Ubuntu for phones, so make that what you will.

In any case, it's based on Ubuntu 13.10, but it uses newer technologies, such as the new Mir display server and Unity8.

“Ubuntu is built for the phone industry. Equally suited for entry-level or high-end smartphones, it provides a powerful, yet lightweight platform with a clear and consistent user experience that can be easily customized for different operators,” reads the official announcement from Canonical.

Ubuntu Touch is not a complete experience, as we noted in an early report, but it’s still usable and shows a lot of promise.
