The drinks are not made by Canonical, but it seemed like a good idea

A beverage called Ubuntu Cola has been spotted in various parts of Europe, but it doesn't have anything to do with the Ubuntu OS or Canonical.

When I first saw the Ubuntu Cola, I actually believed, for a second or two, that it was a great idea. After a little bit of research it seems that the company that makes the drinks, The Fairtrade Foundation, has only one thing in common with Canonical, namely the philosophy behind the name Ubuntu.

The Fairtrade Foundation is a charity and the profits made from this drink go to Africa, to support sugar producers and their communities.

Ubuntu is an African word that means humanity or fellow feeling, or better yet kindness. Canonical used a similar understanding of the word when they chose the name of their operating system.
