Robert Shingledecker announced the immediate availability for download and testing of the Tiny Core 6.1 Linux operating system, one of the smallest and complete operating systems available for download.

There are a few small operating systems available and Tiny Core is just one of them, but the developer has managed to keep the size down despite the fact that he kept on updating it over the years. It's not difficult to build a Linux OS that's also small, but it gets much harder if you also want to have a working desktop environment.

Tiny Core comes with a full desktop experience, a few apps, and a limited functionality out of the box. It's the smallest in comparison with other full-featured operating systems, not with a simple CLI (command line interface) version.

According to the changelog, spaces in dep files are now ignored, busybox has been updated to version 1.23.1, an awk patch has been applied, an unused depi variable has been removed, and several elements of Xorg-7.7 have been upgraded.

A complete list of updates and changes can be found in the official announcement. You can download Tiny Core Linux 6.1 right now from Softpedia. This is now the most advanced stable version of this distro. It can be easily tested in virtual machines.
