Suricata, a high-performance Network IDS, IPS, and Network Security Monitoring engine that is open source and owned by a community-run non-profit organization – the Open Information Security Foundation (OISF) –, is now at version 2.0 RC1.

According to the developer, Suricata 2.0 RC1 marks the release of a new build in the next development branch.

Highlights of Suricata 2.0 RC1:

• Unified JSON output for almost all log types has been implemented; • The QinQ VLAN handling has been improved; • Alerting over PCIe bus has been enabled; • Various scalability improvements have been implemented.

A complete list of changes and new features is available in the official changelog.

Suricata is developed by the OISF, its supporting vendors, and the community. This means that the developers need the active support of the latter in order to improve the software.

Download Suricata 2.0 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
