Numerous users have been complaining on the Steam forums about this problem

SteamOS users have been reporting for a while now a very important bug that is causing the operating system to boot to a blank screen, but it seems that a solution hasn't been presented as of yet.

Reports about SteamOS booting to a black screen, locking the users outside with no access to a terminal, have been present on the official forums for a couple of months, but no workaround has been found. Even worse, it seems to be a problem that is hard to replicate.

“Not sure if this is where I should be asking for help but I have a problem with my homebrew Steam box. I get an issue where the Steam logo appears and then goes to a blank screen (the tv gets no signal after the boot screen).”

“This is post install, the interesting thing is steam has updated automatically twice during the bootup in the last week and each time it finished I was logged in and Steam OS works perfectly, games work, my xbox controller works, it all works,” said a user on the Steam forum.

Other users have reported the same issues, in the same topic. The issues don't seem to be consistent across the spectrum. The result is invariably the same, a black screen, but people also report that SteamOS can start working after numerous installs. This indicates that it might be a hardware issue, although the users have very varied configurations.

Although the users have indicated some workarounds for this problem, none of them seems to have worked.
