A fresh and very interesting Beta version of the Steam for Linux client has been released by Valve, with a surprising new feature.

The company has two branches for Steam, a stable and a development one, and it usually tests all the changes and features in the Beta version.

According to the changelog, support has been added for hardware-accelerated decryption on modern Intel and AMD CPUs, support for selecting your input device (for voice chats on SteamOS) has been added, and the device volume is now being reset to 100% when changing audio device outputs.

Also, a Steam crash which occurred if the game was running on the remote computer before the streaming starts has been fixed, and a crash that happened when streaming from Mac OS X and Linux has been corrected.

Check out the official announcement for more details about this release. You can also download the Steam installer from Softpedia if you don't have the client.

Keep in mind that this is a Beta version and you might experience some problems with it. In order to get it, you have to enroll in the Beta program, from Preferences.
