On October 28, François Dupoux announced a new release of his popular SystemRescueCd Linux-based operating system for rescue and recovery tasks.

SystemRescueCd 3.8.1 comes with important changes and improvements, but the most important one seems to be the switch to a new version of the LTS Linux kernel. A few other updates have also been implemented.

Highlights of SystemRescueCd 3.8.1:

• Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.4.66 (rescuecd + rescue64); • The alternative Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.10.17 (altker32 + altker64); • The filesystem tools have been updated (e2fsprogs-1.42.8, xfsprogs-3.1.11, and xfsdump-3.1.3); • The X.Org graphical environment and drivers have been updated to version 1.13.4.
