Users just have to make a simple system update in order to solve the problems

On October 17th, in a security notice Canonical published details about Python 2.5 vulnerabilities for its Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) operating system.

According to Canonical, several security issues were fixed in Python 2.5. Multiple developers discovered a number of flaws that could have been exploited.

An attacker could have used these vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code, to cause a denial of service via application crash, to cause a denial of service via daemon outage, to potentially obtain access to CGI script source files, and to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks against Internet Explorer 7 users.

The security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the latest python2.5 and python2.5-minimal packages. To apply the update, run the Update Manager application.

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes. A system restart won't be necessary to implement the changes.
