The non-profit OpenBSD Foundation is facing some serious financial troubles that might hamper the development of the software that it is trying to fund and promote.

According to its website, OpenBSD Foundation is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation which exists to support OpenBSD and related projects such as OpenSSH, OpenBGPD, OpenNTPD, and OpenCVS.

The organization is now facing some serious financial issues that might prevent it from keeping the lights on and the computers running.

“In light of shrinking funding, we do need to look for a source to cover project expenses. If need be the OpenBSD Foundation can be involved in receiving donations to cover project electrical costs. But the fact is right now, OpenBSD will shut down if we do not have the funding to keep the lights on,” reads the announcement on the mailing list.

The OpenBSD Foundation is looking for a way to get its electrical bill paid by a Canadian company that is willing to help it and share some of the burden.

We really like OpenBSD and we would hate to see this project sink into oblivion because it lacks funding.
