Aaron J. Seigo, a KDE developer, has talked about what's to come in Plasma Workspaces 4.8, although he refrained from speaking too much about the new features for Plasma Active.

Seigo mentioned a few features, such as screen locking has been moved into the KWin window manager in order to to improve security, performance, X11 independence and the overall look and feel of things.

A new splash screen implementation that uses QtQuick has also been added, which mean the visual aspects will be a lot easier to change and will be a lot more flexible.

The KDE Input Method Panel, aka "kimpanel", got a complete and much needed rewrite for the 4.8 release, which will resolve some issues.

There is also an improved On-screen Keyboard, a full set of QtComponents for use from QtQuick, control panels in Plasmoids, and an improved window switcher.

In the mean time, until the next release, you can download KDE Software Compilation 4.7.3 right now from Softpedia.
