Wireshark 1.10.8, one of the better network protocol analyzers offering users the means to capture and interactively browse the traffic running on a computer network, has been released and is now available for download.

The current version of Wireshark, 1.10.8, supersedes all previous releases, including all builds of Ethereal, and is now the latest stable build. This is a maintenance release and it doesn’t feature any major changes, with the exception of the support for new protocols.

According to the changelog, the VoIP flow graph no longer crashes after being opened, Tshark with "-F pcap" no longer generates a pcapng file, the IPv6 Next Header 0x3d is no longer recognized as SHIM6, a dissector bug in the JSON protocol has been fixed, and Wireshark PEEKREMOTE is no longer incorrectly decoding QoS data packets from Cisco Sniffer Aps.

Also, the following protocols have been updated: CIP, EtherNet/IP, GSM RLC MAC, IEEE 802.11, IPv6, and TCAP.

As usual, Linux users will only get the source code for the latest version, which means that you will need to compile it yourself if you don't want to wait until it arrives in the repositories.

A complete list of changes, fixes, and new features can be found in the official announcement. You can download Wireshark 1.10.8 right now from Softpedia.
