Natural Selection 2, an immersive, multiplayer shooter that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival, will arrive on the Linux platform soon.

Natural Selection 2 combines two very distinct genres that are not usually found together, RTS and FPS. The game will pit two sides against one other, the Frontiersmen marines and the aliens Kharaa.

The developers have demonstrated the game running in Ubuntu and Mint, in its native form. The release date hasn’t been announced yet, but judging from the screenshot it can’t be too far off.

“You might be able to guess that this is a Linux Ubuntu desktop, running the Unity interface. These screenshots were taken on Dushan and Max’s work machines, respectively, at the same time,” reads the announcement on the Natural Selection 2 developer, Unknown Worlds Entertainment.

More details about the progress on the Linux version of Natural Selection 2 can be found on the official blog.
