The TrackingPoint 500 Series ARs has been announced at CES 2014 and it's the first sporting rifle (read assault) powered by a Linux computer.

When people go to CES, they don't usually expect to find firearms or anything like it, but the TrackingPoint 500 Series Ars is an exception.

The rifle features the new Precision Guided Firearm (PGF) system, which is developed by TrackingPoint. It basically allows its users to hit moving targets at 500 yards (457 meters) away with little to no training at all.

“The three PGF rifles, offered in 7.62, .300 BLK and 5.56 calibers, incorporate the company's ground breaking TTX (Tag Track Xact) technology, accurately locking onto and hitting moving targets at distances up to 500 yards.”

“With stabilized target selection, target tracking and guided firing the 500 Series semi-automatic AR products enable anyone to be an expert marksman out to the 500 yard effective range of the firearm, even from difficult firing positions, such as kneeling, standing or even lying beneath an automobile,” reads the official announcement.

The price of the rifle starts at $9,995 (€7,308) and the first models should begin to ship by the end of 2014.
