The Linux kernel has gotten bigger over the years and some parts of it are now so complicated that only a handful of people understand it. Linus Torvalds explained why is this an issue and what's been done about it.
“It's a huge problem, especially in certain areas that are getting so complicated that we only have a few people that actually understand them. The VM is at that point now, that in a certain area we only have a handful of people who really know the code well enough to be able to judge patches,” said Torvalds.
“The good news is that when you are that core, there are not that many patches. You might have 100 patches over one release. It's still manageable and a little more fragile than I like it to be,” he concluded.
