Converting any kind of video format is easy in Linux

HandBrake, a tool for converting video from nearly any format to a selection of modern, widely supported codecs, has been promoted to version 0.10.1 and is now ready for download.

The development for HandBrake is not moving very fast, but its makers are planning to improve this by trying to provide updates much more often. They won't be as extensive as you might imagine, but they might prove to be much more than just a yearly update.

"In an attempt to move away from our yearly release cycle, we have decided to start publishing interim fix releases. 0.10.1 marks the first of these releases. It's focus is to fix some common bugs rather than introduce the new features we are working on in the background for 1.0," reads the official website.

The developer explained that x265 has been upgraded to version 1.5 and that a number of bug fixes have been implemented for all platforms and the core engine.

The application supports a large number of formats including MP4(.M4V), .MKV, H.264 (x264), MPEG-4, MPEG-2 (libav), Theora (libtheora), AAC, CoreAudio AAC/HE-AAC (OS X Only), MP3, Flac, AC3, Vorbis, AC-3, DTS, DTS-HD, AAC, and MP3 tracks. More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. You can download HandBrake 0.10.1 for Linux from Softpedia.
