Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.8.4.2.

Git 1.8.4.2 may seem like a maintenance update, but in fact it's a little more than that. It features a huge number of fixes, as it can be easily observed from the announcement.

Highlights of Git 1.8.4.2:

• "git shortlog" no longer errors out when there is a malformed commit; • "git merge-recursive" now parses its "--diff-algorithm=" command line option correctly; • A regression in "git branch --track” has been corrected; • "git cvsserver" no longer computes the permission mode bits incorrectly for executable files; • "git rebase -i" no longer forgets that the comment character can be configurable.
