Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.8.4.1.

The Git announcement for 1.8.4.1 starts with some very important backward compatibility notes for Git 2.0 and a host of features and changes.

Highlights of Git 1.8.4.1:

• "git rebase -i" and other scripted commands are no longer feeding a random, data dependent error message to 'echo'; • Setting the "submodule.<name>.path" variable to the empty "true" no longer causes the configuration parser to segfault; • A ".mailmap" file that ends with an incomplete line, when read from a blob, is now handled properly; • The recent "short-cut clone connectivity check" topic no longer breaks a shallow repository.
