Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.8.3.

Every Git version released so far has a hefty changelog and introduced a huge number of improvements, but this latest one is rather skimpy.

Highlights of Git 1.8.3:

• remote-hg and remote-bzr helpers (in contrib/ since v1.8.2) have been updated; • "git bisect" now leaves the final outcome as a comment in its bisect log file; • "git clone --reference" can now refer to a gitfile "textual symlink" that points at the real location of the repository; • The "--annotate" option to "git send-email" can be turned on (or off) by default; • The bash completion support has been improved.
