GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), an application that can be used as a simple paint program or as an expert quality photo retouching program, is now at version 2.8.8.

GIMP releases are few and far in between, but the developers do provide a huge number of changes when they release a new version.

According to the changelog, the images always have a colormap, the application no longer crashes when setting a large text size, the same image is now kept active when switching between MWM and SWM, all dockables are properly resizable, and links have been added to jump directly to Save/Export from the Export/Save.

Also, the plug-in-autocrop-layer's PDB interface has been well documented, the importing of indexed BMPs has been corrected, and a lot of bug fixes have been implemented.

The official changelog contains a complete list of new features and improvements. Download GIMP 2.8.8 right now from Softpedia.
