Canonical has updated the Firefox packages in the repositories for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 14.10. If you have this application installed right now, the next system update should bring the latest version.

Ubuntu has been quick to push the new Firefox into its repositories and users of the above mentioned operating systems will be getting the new version with the next system update. It's easy to do and it's even recommended.

"Cody Crews discovered a way to trigger chrome-level XBL bindings from web content in some circumstances. If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted website, an attacker could potentially exploit this to bypass security restrictions," is noted in the security notice from Canonical.

Each new Firefox version usually comes with a number of security fixes, not features, but this was a major release and we covered it much better in the original report.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS users will get the latest Firefox version by updating their system via the Software Update or through a terminal. It's also possible to download the binary Firefox 34.0.5 package if you don't want to install it in the system. Just extract the archive and run the binary file.
