Tails, a live system that aims to preserve your privacy and that helps you use the Internet anonymously, has reached version 1.0.1.

Tails is a distribution based on Debian and TOR technologies whose purpose is to keep its users as anonymous as possible. It's been around for quite a while, but it gained some popularity when Edward Snowden said that he used this particular operating system to stay hidden.

Numerous packages have been upgraded in this maintenance version of Tails and it looks like the developers are now working on two branches, stable and Beta.

According to the changelog, the Tor Browser has been updated to version 24.6.0esr-0+tails1~bpo60+1 (it's actually made up of Firefox 24.6.0esr + Iceweasel patches + Torbrowser patches), the Linux kernel has been updated from the Debian unstable branch, the OpenSSL version from Debian Squeeze LTS has been added, and GnuTLS from Debian Squeeze LTS has been added.

Also, the developers have finally added the Debian Squeeze LTS APT source, I2P has been upgraded to version 0.9.13-1~deb6u+1, and Tor is now at version 0.2.4.22-1~d60.squeeze+1.

A complete changelog can be found in the official announcement. You can download Tails 1.0.1 right now from Softpedia or you can try the new Tails 1.1 Beta, which has some very interesting new features.
