When is comes to desktop customization, Linux is king

Windows 8.1 may have received a lot of attention in the past couple of months, but when it comes to customizing flexibility, it doesn't hold a candle to Linux OSes.

The most evident example of flexibility is the ability of Linux OSes to implement various desktop environments. For all intents and purposes, Windows has only one desktop environment, and Microsoft has made sure that Windows 8.1 users will have a very hard time in modifying their systems.

Windows XP and Windows 7 could be heavily modified with third party apps, such as WindowBlinds, but that ability is almost gone in Windows 8.1.

Linux on the other hand is capable of supporting a number of completely different desktop environments, such as GNOME, KDE, Unity, MATE, Cinnamon, Openbox, Xfce, LXDE, and this is just counting the major ones.

To top it all off, some of the desktop environments mentioned above can be heavily modified to resemble Windows.

So, what are you all waiting for? Keep calm and switch to Linux!
