Henry Jensen announced today, April 23, that the first Release Candidate (RC) version of the upcoming ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 distribution, a free/libre computer operating system for x86 computers with limited resources, is now available for download and testing.

ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 Release Candidate 1 is now powered by a Linux Libre 3.10.75 kernel and updates most of its core components from the upstream software repositories of the Slackware and Salix OS distributions on which it is based.

"I'm happy to announce ConnochaetOS 14.1 RC1. This version should be close to the final release, but things can still be changed," says Henry Jensen. "ConnochaetOS 14.1 RC1 comes with Linux Libre 3.10.75 and the latest updates from our upstream distros."

With this RC version, ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 gets fixed hardware requirements, such as an i686 processor (Pentium Pro or above), 128MB of RAM, and at least 3GB of free disk space. However, it is recommended to have a computer with 256MB of RAM and a Pentium IV class processor or better to enjoy a full experience.

Download ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 RC1 right now from Softpedia. However, please keep in mind that this is a pre-release version that shouldn't be installed on production machines because it might contain unresolved issues.
