Mobile World Congress 2014 is about to kick off in a couple of day and Canonical has announced that it will participate and show off its Ubuntu progress, on the mobile and tablet front.

Ubuntu for phones has been announced only a year ago and Canonical has made some real progress in the meantime. The new OS is stable and runs on Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, without any major problems.

Canonical also announced the first two hardware partners for Ubuntu Touch, Meizu and BQ, and both of them will be present at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

“The latest development of Ubuntu for phones and tablets is on show at this year’s Mobile World Congress – including the visually stunning scopes, a new mobile UI paradigm.”

“Ubuntu has announced partnerships with Meizu, a hot manufacturer of phones in China, and BQ, a specialist European phone manufacturer, to bring the first range of Ubuntu devices to market in 2014. The industrial design of those devices is on show at MWC for the first time,” reads the announcement from Canonical.

The Mobile World Congress 2014 takes places in Barcelona between February 24 and runs until the 27.
