On May 7, in a security notice Canonical published details about a libxml2 vulnerability for its Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) operating system.

According to Canonical, libxml2 could be made to crash or run programs, if it opened a specially crafted file.

It was discovered that the libxml2 library incorrectly handled memory management, when parsing certain XML files.

An attacker could use this flaw to cause libxml2 to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or to possibly execute arbitrary code.

The security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the latest libxml2 package, specific to the distribution. To apply the update, run the Update Manager application.

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes. After the system update, you need to reboot your computer to make all the necessary changes.
