Canonical is a profitable business, but at the same time that is not its immediate goal as an enterprise. This can be easily seen from the last fiscal year report of the company, at least what's registered in the UK.

According to an arstechnica.com report, Canonical has registered a $65.7 million (€48.09 million) revenue for the 2013 fiscal year, which is actually an increase from the measly $56.80 million (€41.52 million) from 2012.

Despite appearances, this doesn’t mean that they've turned a profit. In fact, Canonical registered losses of $21.5 million (€15.7 million) for the same year, which is almost double in comparison with 2012.

The financial results have been posted only for its UK operations, but Canonical is an international company, so the general numbers might be very different.
