A bug has been submitted on Launchpad regarding this issue

A feature introduced in the development version of Ubuntu 13.10 has raised a few eyebrows, but Canonical has spotted the problem and promised to fix it soon.

As you might know from previous Ubuntu operating systems, right-clicking an item in Unity's Dash opens a small preview and the left-click would execute it.

The recent change implemented in Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) changed the left-click action and made it similar to the right-click.

This means that users had to double-click anything in Unity or wait for the preview to unveil. Suffice it to say that people didn't quite like this “feature.”

As it turns out, it was more of a mistake than a proposed feature. The bug has been summited to Launchpad and the developers will soon fix it.

Even Mark Shuttleworth intervened and said that the “goal was to preview everything other than apps and left click on an installed app should just launch it.”

More details about this bug can be found on Launchpad.
