Canonical has published details about X.Org X server vulnerabilities for its Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating systems.

According to the company, the X.Org X server could have been made to crash or to run programs as an administrator, had it received specially crafted input.

For example, it has been discovered that the X.Org X server incorrectly handled memory operations when handling ImageText requests. An attacker could use this issue to cause X.Org to crash, or to possibly execute arbitrary code.

For a more detailed description of the security problems, you can visit Canonical's security notification.

Users can simply fix the security flaws by upgrading the operating systems to the latest xserver-xorg-core packages specific to each distribution.

A normal system update, executed with the Update Manager, will implement all the necessary changes. A complete system restart is necessary.
