Canonical has announced that it has signed an engineering agreement with Dell to support Ubuntu 12.04 LTS across the full range of Dell’s latest 12th generation PowerEdge Server.

So far, over 45 Dell PowerEdge Servers have been certified by Canonical for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. This certification is available for Ubuntu Advantage customers.

“Ubuntu is one of the leading enterprise-class Linux distributions and demand for the OS is growing among hyperscale customers,” said Forrest Norrod, vice president and general manager, Dell Server Solutions.

“The Canonical certification and support of Ubuntu on our Dell PowerEdge servers is consistent with our innovation for customers running scale-out workloads.”

Canonical's Ubuntu Advantage customers will greatly benefit from this collaboration between Ubuntu's developer and Dell.

Ubuntu Advantage includes enterprise-grade systems management tools, support, and legal assurance to make it easy to deploy and manage servers running on Ubuntu and the customers can get this service straight from Dell or Canonical.
