The Black Lab Software Team, through Roberto J. Dohnert, was happy to announce Softpedia a few minutes ago, February 27, about the immediate availability for download and testing of the first Beta release of the forthcoming Black Lab Linux Professional Desktop 6.5 computer operating system.

At the users’ request, Black Lab Linux Professional Desktop 6.5 Beta 1 now uses GNOME Classic as the default desktop environment, making the operating system more familiar to those who want to migrate from Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS or Oracle Linux. The distribution is now powered by Linux kernel 3.16, supporting UEFI/Secure Boot enabled systems.

“Today we are pleased to announce the availability of Black Lab Linux Professional Desktop 6.5 beta 1. This is an upcoming look at the future version of the Black Lab Linux Pro series. With this release we include over 300 bug fixes as well as kernel updates. We also worked on presentation and functionality. All of the important bug fixes and application updates can be viewed in our release notes,” said Roberto J. Dohnert for Softpedia.

You can download Black Lab Linux Professional Desktop 6.5 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia. However, keep in mind that this is an unstable release that shouldn’t be installed on production machines. Also, it is designed to boot only on modern, 64-bit computers.
