14 DAY TRIAL // Bitrig, a free, fast, secure, and highly portable Unix-like open source operating system, has been announced.
Bitrig is a fork OpenBSD that promises to be available for the current-generation hardware, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms. The distribution will benefit from three distinct repositories, bitrig-ports.git, bitrig-xenocara.git, and bitrig.git.
The aim is to keep the size of the distro as small as possible, to have long lived releases with paid maintenance, and a major RC every year. Bitrig is currently based on LLVM's clang 3.1 instead of GCC 4.2.
The OpenBSD project produces a free, multi-platform 4.4BSD-based UNIX-like operating system that emphasizes portability, standardization, correctness, proactive security and integrated cryptography.
Bitrig will be available for users at the end of June 2012 and it will provide support for the ARM platform too.
