A new maintenance update has been made for LibreOffice

The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 4.3.5, the famous open source office suite, making this the most advanced stable version available.

The LibreOffice team of developers from The Document Foundation have released a new maintenance update for LibreOffice 4.3.x branch, which is the latest one made available. Because this is a maintenance version, there are no major upgrades or new features, but there are some interesting changes. It you already have this branch installed, it would be a good time to get the latest version.

The Document Foundation has a number of concurrent branches available at any given time and all of them are supported for long periods. The reason is very simple. This office suite is used in a number of environments that don't react too well to major upgrades, like the administration of a city. This is why it's preferable to keep an older version of the office suite running for longer and making small updates from time to time.

LibreOffice 4.3.5 is just another bump in the road

These periodic updates are not all that big and they usually arrive unnoticed, along with other system updates. The same can be said about the 4.3.5 version. It's also worth to keep in mind that the 4.4. branch is not all that far off into the future.

"The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 4.3.5, the fifth minor release of LibreOffice 4.3 'fresh' family, which is a stable release of the more advanced version of the software, targeted to individual and enterprise users. LibreOffice 4.3.5 contains over 70 bug fixes. The Document Foundation suggests to deploy LibreOffice 4.3.5 in enterprises and large organizations when backed by professional support by certified individuals," is noted in the official announcement.

There are no big changes, but some of them are rather interesting. For example, a crash that happened during a right click in a paragraph has been fixed, page numbering has been improved, formatting the date and the time doesn't give any errors, a few problems with the DOTX files have been fixed, the RTF filter has been improved, and the wrong table background is no longer shown in the tables.

More details about this latest release can be found in the official changelog. Also, please keep in mind that this office suite is available on a number of different platforms, including Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. The Linux version is distributed as a source package, so it would be best to wait until the official repositories make it available.

You can download the LibreOffice 4.3.5 source packages from Softpedia, if you want to compile them yourself. You can also get the Windows or Mac OS X versions from Softpedia as well.
