What's new in Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS Beta 2

  • Fixes to Language pack installation (gnome-control-center) and ibus support
  • GNOME Software has replaced Ubuntu Software Center
  • GNOME Calendar and GNOME Logs are installed by default
  • GNOME Builder (IDE) is now available in the archives
  • gnome-control-center sharing panel has been fixed
  • Experimental wayland session is now available. Install gnome-session-wayland and then select "GNOME on wayland" from login screen (Only works with OSS GPU drivers).

New in Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 (Apr 23, 2015)

  • Most of GNOME 3.14 is now included. See the GNOME release notes for more details. The few missing bits of 3.14 are available in ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3. We do NOT use gnome-software to install applications, instead we use Ubuntu Software Center.
  • gnome-maps and gnome-weather are now installed by default. gnome-photos, gnome-music and polari are available to install from the Ubuntu archive.
  • A set of 10 new high-quality wallpapers are included by default.
  • GNOME Classic session is included. To try it, choose it from the Sessions option on the login screen.
  • New themes (like numix) are available on the archive.

New in Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 Beta 1 (Feb 26, 2015)

  • GNOME Shell 3.14.3
  • Experimental wayland session is now available. Install gnome-session-wayland and then select "GNOME on wayland" from login screen (Only works with OSS GPU drivers).
  • The default wallpaper and Ubiquity slide show has been updated.

New in Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 Alpha 1 (Dec 18, 2014)

  • Gnome-shell is still 3.12 for now (hopefully by Alpha 2, we shall have 3.14).
  • Few applications have been updated to 3.14 (hopefully by Alpha 2, most of the applications will be 3.14).
  • gnome-terminal has transparency again.
  • Window control Button layouts have been reverted to upstream default (only close); use gnome-tweak-tool if you want to get back the other controls.
