What's new in Parrot Security OS 4.4

  • The Parrot 4.4 development process involved the ideas of many people from our community, and the goal of this new update was mainly to target software developers and increase average system stability.

New in Parrot Security OS 4.3 (Nov 8, 2018)

  • Linux 4.18:
  • Linux was updated to the 4.18.10 version, and linux 4.19 will be released soon.
  • Firefox 63:
  • Firefox 63 provides noticeable security and privacy features, but it is no longer available to 32bit systems, so we switched to firefox-esr on all the unsupported architectures.
  • Wine menu:
  • We fixed a bug in the parrot menu configuration that prevented several menu categories to show up.
  • This fixed the missing wine menu bug, which is now back again.
  • Bashrc updates:
  • The Parrot .bashrc file was updated, now it provides better snap support, the ll alias now shows the size in a human readable format and it does no longer overwrite some global settings as it used to do before.
  • Java 11:
  • OpenJDK 11 is now the default java provider.
  • Anonsurf:
  • Anonsurf received important stability upgrades and now it does not mess up the dns configuration.
  • New Parrot icons:
  • The Parrot edition of the MAIA icon theme was updated.
  • We dropped many old unused icons and replaced them with newer ones.
  • Core updates:
  • Parrot 4.3 provides the latest updates of Debian Testing and many improvements to our sandbox system, in fact both firejail and apparmor received significant updates, and now the whole system is smoother, more secure and more reliable.

New in Parrot Security OS 3.11 (Jan 29, 2018)

  • This new release introduces many improvements and security fixes compared to the previous versions. It includes by default all the spectre/meltdown security patches currently available and an updated version of the Linux 4.14 kernel.
  • A new car hacking menu now contains a collection of useful open source tools in the automotive industry to test real world cars or simulate CANBus networks.
  • Metasploit and postgresql are now patched to work flawlessly out of the box in live mode.
  • Other important updates include Firefox 58, increased installer stability, many updated security tools and some important graphic improvements.
  • Parrot Studio was reintroduced with many improvements, this special derivative of Parrot is designed for multimedia production as an improved version of Parrot Home for workstations, with many useful productivity tools pre-installed.
