Oblong Linux Changelog

What's new in Oblong Linux 1.0

Jun 12, 2012
  • This release is the first release of Oblong Linux to be considered stable. It is a significant upgrade from Proto 3 simply because of the wonderful new OBPK format, but of course that's not the only change.
  • Addons built for Proto 3 are incompatible with 1.0.

New in Oblong Linux Proto 3 (Tribbles) (May 28, 2012)

  • I recompiled Proto 3 completely of course, added the 3.4 kernel and a bunch of wifi drivers, along with kernel support for modules although none exist, the iwconfig wifi tools and it's wrapper, obwifi, an installer called obinst, an addon installer called obpk, removed nInvaders since it was too fast and broken, and squashfs tools because A. Nobody uses it and B. It wanted shared libgcc to work properly though ldd didn't say so, which I wasn't going to give it. Squashfs mounting support is still available and is the method used for the OBPK installer. I added the traditional util-linux mount and umount commands, and libmount since it's just a little better of a mount utility, and also vastly improved all scripts. If something fails to start or shut down, you'll probably see it. Added back the udev rules also, which should have already been there. The kernel local version scheme now uses ob_(release).(cpu). The only current incarnation of Oblong is for the Intel etc i586 and compatible instruction sets. AND... I had to pull the first ISO that thankfully nobody downloaded and reupload this one because OpenSSL wasn't compiled properly for the i586 and was refusing to execute.

New in Oblong Linux proto 2 (Golden Mouse) (May 15, 2012)

  • Added NTP time keeping service and it's utilities, since I use util-linux's blkid and uuid libs, I copied over it's cfdisk and fdisk as well.
  • Other changes include minor bootscript modifications and a full recompile featuring all updates of the time.
