Escuelas Linux Changelog

What's new in Escuelas Linux 6.5

Aug 28, 2019
  • LibreOffice 6.3 in 32-bit? Alive and kicking:
  • Escuelas Linux includes LibreOffice 6.3 in our 64-bit edition. But it is also included in our 32-bit edition! As far as we know, Escuelas Linux is the only distro in the world that includes LibreOffice 6.3 in the Linux 32-bit architecture.
  • After the decision of The Document Foundation to shut down the release of LibreOffice 32-bit binaries, Escuelas Linux undertook the challenge of having to compile this complex program for our own distribution and, with the help of members of their development community, the result is that LibreOffice 32-bit is still up and running with us in its most recent version.
  • And that’s not all. Escuelas Linux will continue providing 32-bit LibreOffice also for future releases of our distribution. That’s our promise.
  • Switching to the Office XML format:
  • Another important design decision is that in Escuelas Linux, LibreOffice now saves as default in the current format of Microsoft Office (docx, xlsx, pptx). In our previous releases it saved in the as default in the old format (doc, xls, ppt), because it was the best choice for better interoperability to exchange files between platforms. Nevertheless, after sixteen years of use, we believe that is feasible to do this change.
  • We reiterate that configuring LibreOffice to save in the Microsoft Office file formats by default is not a decision we like, but it is necessary to cope with some current market realities.
  • Don’t forget to try the new redesigned interface of LibreOffice Draw, now with an interesting tabbed UI that fits perfectly with the interface already provided as default in Escuelas Linux for the other LibreOffice apps.
  • When updating, the LibreOffice list of recently opened files will be erased, but fear not, the actual files will be intact in the folders were you saved.
  • Moksha/Enlightenment update:
  • In the last weeks appeared an annoying message asking to update Enlightenment. We previously documented how to update Moksha or how to do a procedure to get rid of that message, but if you update to Escuelas Linux 6.5 you will not see that message again, even if you did not apply the suggested procedures previously.
  • New app included: Cheese:
  • Do you want to use a webcam in Linux? Then you can’t miss this funny app, in which you can even add superb effect to your videos. You should check the “Quark” effect to disintegrate yourself.
  • A welcomed change in FreeOffice:
  • FreeOffice is a great office suite, but it had something that, in our opinion, was a severe mistake: to be able to use it you had to do a complex Internet based activation process, and for us it meant that dozens of schools without Internet access simply would not use it, as would be a big chore to have to move computers to a place with Internet to merely activate one single app.
  • At last, that way of doing things has been removed, and FreeOffice can be used without activation. Excellent and wise decision from Softmaker!
  • Updated apps:
  • As usual, Escuelas Linux also includes the most recent versions of OnlyOffice (64-bit), Geogebra, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome (64-bit) or Chromium (32-bit), Vivaldi, LiveCode and Adobe Flash Player. In the “kernel5.2” carpet of your installation medium you will find the packages of most recent version of the Linux kernel to date, to install it easily where it could be needed.
  • Bug fixing:
  • It had happened to you that, when you tried to unmount a USB stick or external hard drive in the PCMan File Manager, an “Not authorized to perform operation” error message appeared, and you could only unmount from the “Places” gadget on the Desktop? That bug will not happen again, and you can now unmount from any app without any error.

New in Escuelas Linux 6.3 (Apr 8, 2019)

  • Bug fixing:
  • When installing Escuelas Linux 6.3, now it does not matter if the computer is Internet-connected or not. During our 6.0 to 6.2 releases, Escuelas Linux required that computers were not connected to the Internet, to avoid them to get stuck at the message “Downloading file...” near the final stage, and If they happen to get stuck, a click on a “Skip” button was required to be able to continue. This nuisance is now fixed. From Escuelas Linux 6.3, it does not matter if the computer is connected or not to the Internet during the install process.
  • An old issue was solved, in which the installation of certain Escuelas Linux components (such as our opdate packs) could fail if there were one or more spaces in the name of the source device or in the name of directories. From 6.3, this issue has ceased to exist.
  • An issue of GCompris running slowly in 32-bit systems was fixed.
  • On some computer models, the GCompris app was awfully slow. With the changes we made, this issue should not appear anymore and, additionally, we now include an updated Gcompris, 0.96
  • On our 64-bit English language edition there were a lot of environment variables pointing to Spanish language. Bug fixed.
  • In some instances there was no repository list, so it could not be possible to access to more packages or some updates. Bug fixed.
  • The 32-bit edition incorrectly pointed to Java environment variables for 64-bit systems. Bug fixed.
  • Some students could be able to edit the icons of the dock and type inappropriate comments that appeared when putting the cursor over them. Now this action is fixed by merely restarting the computer.
  • It was not possible to open a file created in Pencil2D from the file manager. Bug fixed.
  • The Installation Manual explains with more detail how to connect to projectors or external screens.
  • Updated packages:
  • Welcome, IBM Java!
  • As we previously reported in our blog, there are issues in the use of LibreOffice 32-bit, related to Zotero or the grammar checker, and even there are circumstances in which is not possible to use this office suite at all. To avoid these potential issues, we incorporated the 32-bit Java implementation from IBM.
  • Is worth noting that we did this change also in Escuelas Linux 6.3 64-bit. This edition was not affected by the issue previously described, but we found that IBM Java is astonishingly appropriate for our educational uses. All current users of our Escuelas Linux Developer Pack (https://sourceforge.net/projects/escuelaslinux/files/developer/) are not affected at all by this change, when using our 6.2 to 6.3 update pack.
  • Also, from now on, our users will not depend on a new release of Escuelas Linux to easily have Java updates. As in Adoble Flash you can update by merely typing in a terminal sudo udpateflash, it is now possible to do the same procedure by typing sudo updatejava.
  • LibreOffice 6.1.5
  • We decided to stay in LibreOffice 6.1 and not to jump to LibreOffice 6.2, because we found serious issues in the UI translations, at least for Spanish language. Nevertheless, the UI improvements in LibreOffice 6.2 were already available as default in the LibreOffice 6.1 included with Escuelas Linux, so for now we only offer the latest update to LibreOffice 6.1, which is 6.1.5.
  • Arandrd 0.1.10
  • In this modified Arandr version, it is now possible to click on File → Moksha, in order to save with ease your own parameters related to the resolution and/or positions of integrated and external screens, without having to configure them each time you access.
  • Inkscape 0.92.4
  • If you had some issues with the stability of Inkscape in certain situations, this update might fix those.
  • Openshot 2.4.4
  • Another minor update to Openshot, in which you may notice stability improvements.
  • And, as usual, Escuelas Linux adds the most recent versions to date of general-use apps, such as Firefox, Google Chrome in 64-bit and Chromium in 32-bit, Vivaldi, Teamviewer, Geogebra and Adobe Flash. For 64-bit systems, our users can easily install the most recent kernel 4.19 LTS to date, by accessing the "kernel4.19" directory and running the sudo bash ./install” script.

New in Escuelas Linux 6.2 (Jan 8, 2019)

  • Our new edition offers updated versions of Firefox, Chrome/Chromium, Vivaldi, Geogebra, LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, FreeOffice, Gimp, Krita, Gcompris, Teamviewer, Java, Flash Player and Terminology.
  • Also, we added 3 new apps to our distribution:
  • Pencil 2D, a tool for the creation of 2D animations.
  • FisicaLab, an educational application to solve physics problems, such as kinematics and static of 2D points, calorimetry, ideal gases and expansion.
  • Termograf, a thermodynamics simulator that offers computation of properties, variables and graphics, configuration of substances and units, energy balance and entropy, as well as an equation editor.
  • A bug in which the Epoptes server didn’t display the miniatures of the connected computers was solved, also the correct app to open Flash video files is set up, among other minor fixes.

New in Escuelas Linux 6.0 (Sep 7, 2018)

  • We dropped our old custom installation method, so Escuelas Linux now can be installed as any other major Linux distribution. It’s not needed to look at the Installation Manual, no need to type any command line, no weird ways to do things.
  • We now offer our two supported languages (English and Spanish) as separated ISO images, so our users can install the system completely in their own language.
  • Unsure about using Escuelas Linux? The full environment can now be run live from an USB drive, so you can try it all before deciding to install it on your hard disk.
  • We offer a streamlined GUI, which highlights the advantages and beauty of the Enlightenment-based Moksha desktop.
  • As usual, we offer almost every app highly perfected to offer its highest potential. In this way, Escuelas Linux is useful not only for educational settings, but also as a powerful general purpose desktop. We could fill several pages describing what we have added or changed in a lot of apps to be even better.
  • We have included improved versions of our legendary in-house applications, useful for the use of Linux in public environments:
  • RestoreUser. In Escuelas Linux the users are free to experiment with the apps and do whatever they want, but that does not mean that it would be a headache for the teachers or the computer lab administrators, trying to figure out what was changed or spending a lot of time returning apps to a working state. RestoreUser let teachers and administrators restitute all our included apps to the default, perfectioned state we distribute them, in a mere few seconds.
  • ReinstateUser. Another Escuelas Linux app, that does the same as the one described above, plus erasing any file created by the users. This is very useful in computer labs where the teachers and/or administrators want to clean the user account without having to manually do that.
  • NCopy. A utility that complements an Epoptes server/client. With it, a teacher can choose a file or directory and send it to all the computers, if a local network is available. Also, the Epoptes app is so easy to install, if our included scripts are used.
  • We also include in this release our brand-new “Unlock Desktop” and “Lock Desktop” apps. You can now preserve the default desktop, or change it to your liking, using these shinny-new apps now with graphical interface. No command lines as was needed in previous versions!
  • Escuelas Linux is also powered with LibreOffice 6.1, OnlyOffice 5.1, Softmaker FreeOffice 2018, Firefox 61, Chrome/Chromium 68, Vivaldi 1.15, Gimp 2.10.4, Krita 4.1, LiveCode 9, Kdenlive 17.12, VLC 3.0.3, and a lot more of general-purpose apps. Additionally, we included a robust selection of educative apps that are useful from preschool to high school, such as Gcompris, all the KDE-edu bunch, wxMaxima, Geogebra, PSPP, and much more!

New in Escuelas Linux 5.5 (Aug 9, 2017)

  • LibreOffice 5.4:
  • The new LibreOffice version offers a better user interface, even more practical and easier to use. As for the Impress app, is not necessary anymore to switch from notebookbar to another layout in order to be able to have a full screen presentation without the notebookbar buttons being visible.
  • OnlyOffice 4.4:
  • It has numerous improvements, among which there is a better user interface and an interface panel already translated to other languages.
  • If you need to type Spanish accented characters in it, you can use the special method available in Escuelas Linux, in which Windows key + a = á, Windows key + e = é... Windows key + ! = ¡, Windows key + ? = ¿, Windows key + n = ñ.
  • Google Chrome 60 (64 bits) / Chromium 59 (32 bits):
  • Chrome 60 is up with a good number of changes useful for developers, and it solves 40 security problems. Chromium 59 adds a config menu with the Material Design look and feel.
  • Vivaldi 1.10.867.48:
  • Vivaldi offers you ways to customize the Start Page and the new tabs in any way you like. You can add multiple Speed Dials to your Start Page and use these to organize and collect links to your favorite web pages. Thumbnails are generated by default, but with the latest update, you can replace them with custom images or even animated GIFs to create the desired look. It Is also possible the sorting of downloads by name, size, date added and date finished.
  • Geogebra is updated to its 5.0.381 version.
  • Adobe Flash Player is updated to its 26.0.0.151 version, but remember that in Escuelas Linux you can update it easily any time you want, by merely opening Terminology and typing ‘sudo updateflash [enter]’
  • We added dozens of new plugins to Gimp, making it a graphics app even more powerful.
  • The packages of Linux Kernel 4.12.5 are included in /debs/other/kernel4.12, to be installed if desired. The 4.12 kernel has more than 24 millions of code, making it one of the biggest releases historically.
  • Last but no least, we now document in our Install Manual a feature that has been always included in Escuelas Linux, but it had been almost unknown because the only info about it was an old entry in our blog. In the Free Software world there is a powerful program named iTALC, which let you do, among other things...
  • See what’s going on in every student computer in a classroom
  • Take remote control of the student computers in order to help them
  • Put a live demo of whatever is doing a student in his/her computer
  • Block some or all computers in order to center the attention on a teacher
  • Send text messages to the students
  • Shut down all the computers with a single command.

New in Escuelas Linux 5.4 (Jun 20, 2017)

  • New and updated software:
  • Firefox 54, which its new multiprocess feature, is now faster than ever.
  • Google Chrome 59 in 64 bits, Chromium browser 58 in 32 bits. If using 59, now you’ll have access to its settings in a gorgeous Material Design environment.
  • LibreOffice 5.3.3, with over 70 patches and fixes.
  • Vivaldi 1.10 web browser, with the ability to set custom Speed Dial thumbnails, the use of options to run commands using a keyboard shortcut, and download sorting.
  • Softmaker FreeOffice receives a point update in its office suite. Remember that you’ll need Internet access to be able to activate this product.
  • Geogebra bumps to 5.0.366.
  • Adobe Flash is included with its most recent release to date.
  • Skype is dropped from our distribution. As the native app will cease working on July 1th, and the electron-based release is still in a beta stage, didn’t make sense for us to include it. If you want to use Skype services, you may want to try the web based version.
  • We included new graphical front-ends to configure SMB and NFS shares, change time and date, and to admin local network settings.
  • The drivers folder in the 32 bit edition now includes the package necessary to have running properly the video on computers with old VIA graphics chipsets; In the debs/other/kernel4.10 folder for the 64 bit edition we include the packages with the most recent release to date of this kernel series (4.10.17), to be easily installed in places where it would be needed.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • On some computers there was a short but frequent restart in the graphical environment that, if indeed innocuous, was not on par to our quality standards. In our 5.4 version the settings that could trigger it were deactivated, and also our distro was updated to use the Enlightenment Foundation Libraries 1.19.1, which insures a rock solid desktop experience.
  • Our updaters and switch language packs now detect if there is a process locking the package database, so there would be no more failed setups because of that.
  • Our graphical installer showed the message "Escuelas Linux setup is going to finish soon" a mere few moments after the install process started on computers set to a time in the future. Bug fixed.
  • Escuelas Linux 5.4 now uses by default the date and time provided by Internet servers. If Internet is not available, it will use the CMOS data.
  • GParted was omitted in the 32-bit edition. Now it is included.
  • The SMB GUI app was not working. Replaced with the “Shared Folders” app.
  • When opening Firefox after an update, there is not going to appear anymore a dialog box asking which profile do you want to use. Fortunately, Escuelas Linux is going to continue including two versions of Firefox: the most recent one and the Extended Support Release, in which is still possible to run legacy Java apps.
  • Our Install Manual contains numerous changes, made to explain in a better way some documented procedures.

New in Escuelas Linux 5.3 (May 3, 2017)

  • LiveCode was downgraded from 8.1.2 to 7.1.4:
  • We were very excited by the new features of LiveCode 8.x. Nevertheless, in 8.x an issue has crippled the Linux edition: the Player Object. First, LiveCode was not even able to open the Player Properties Inspector, and later, it was not functioning properly. As LiveCode 8.x at this time is not able to use its multimedia Player tool in an easy and proper way, it is not useful for our educational purposes, at least as shown its uses in our YouTube channel. So, we decided to go back to the 7.1.4 version until these issues are solved in future releases.
  • Rosa Media Player is out, SMPlayer is back:
  • We were very excited to put Rosa Media Player as our default mplayer frontend. Nevertheless, some users reported that in certain computers it is not able to reproduce some video files, but it is able to reproduce those very same video files in other ones. We were able to confirm this issue, so we decided to go back to our previous and reliable mplayer frontend, SMPlayer.
  • We included the most recent release of Firefox to date (53), but we now also include Firefox ESR.
  • In its most recent version Firefox decided to disable NPAPI plugins, which means, among other things, that Java content is not going to be displayed anymore.
  • We are aware that in a lot of countries Java-based educational content has been created during a lot of years, so this change would render that content unusable. For this reason, we now also include another Firefox, the Extended Support Release (ESR), for our users that still need to use legacy Java-based apps. Firefox ESR can be opened in menu → Applications → Internet. If using the File Manager to open contents in your hard disk, alternate/right click in some html wrapper and choose the ESR version to open it.
  • OnlyOffice Desktop Editor 4.3:
  • This update in the 64 bit edition brings a lot of exciting features, such as the ability to insert and edit footnotes, to use paste special and more.
  • Remember that in Escuelas Linux if you need to type accented characters in this app, you can use our special preconfigured keyboard map, which lets you to type accented vocal characters with the use of the Windows key (Windows + a = á, Windows + e = é... Windows + n = ñ, Windows + ? = ¿)
  • LibreOffice 5.3.2
  • Google Chrome 58 for 64 bits, Chromium 57 for 32 bits
  • Vivaldi 1.8
  • Linux Kernel 4.10.12:
  • In 64 bits systems, you can easily update to the latest Linux kernel to date, by merely running the 'instala' script located in debs/other/kernel 4.10.12.
  • And, as usual, Adobe Flash plugin is updated to its latest release, as well as Geogebra, now in its 5.0.352 version.
  • Fixed bugs:
  • Kompozer was not included in the 32 bit edition, and in the 64 bit Spanish edition the app ran in English language. Both issues are fixed.
  • When running our flagship apps (RestoreUser or ForceUser) after a long time, that caused Firefox to display a message about a need to reset it, as if it was not used. Issue fixed.
  • In the Spanish edition TuxRacer ran in English language. Now it runs in that edition in Spanish language.
  • Was not possible to open wxMaxima files from the file manager. Bug fixed.
  • Some minor corrections in our Install Manual.

New in Escuelas Linux 5.2 (Mar 23, 2017)

  • LibreOffice 5.3.1, which includes dozens of fixes.
  • OnlyOffice Desktop Editors (64 bits edition), is updated to its 4.2.5 version.
  • Google Chrome 57 in 64 bits, Chromium 56 in 32 bits.
  • Vivaldi web browser is now in its 1.7 version.
  • Geogebra is updated to its 5.0.341 version.
  • Adobe Flash is updated again.
  • The Caph app was missing in our previous release.
  • Fixed regression: when applying a fix pack for 5.1, it caused that Wine-base apps went to Spanish language.
  • We added a new app to our distro: Shotwell, a useful photo manager.
  • In the 64 bits ISO image we now include the most recent Linux kernel to date (4.10.3), to be easily installed in places were it would be needed to replace the one installed by default (4.4). The deb packages are located in the debs/other/kernel4.10 directory.

New in Escuelas Linux 5.1 (Feb 9, 2017)

  • Easy access to our flagship tools:
  • RestoreUser, to return easily all the apps to their original state,
  • ForceUser, to restore all the apps and delete the files created by the users, and
  • RestoreIcons, to solve some rare situations in which some icons would be not visible
  • all of them are tools widely used only in our distribution, but it was not simple to access them! Now you can find them easily by just opening the System menu.
  • Flash:
  • If you need to update easily your Adobe Flash version, you can open a terminal and type ‘sudo updateflash’. You won’t have to do anything else.
  • We have a great surprise for you: customize the Escuelas Linux desktop as you desire:
  • As every Escuelas Linux user already knows, our distribution includes a default desktop (the one with a landscape as wallpaper, a dock with a selection of apps in the bottom, a clock on the left, etc.). A normal user can modify this desktop as much as he/she desires, but when the computer is restarted, the desktop came back in its original state. Ifyou wanted to use a custom desktop, you merely opened a terminal and typed ‘sudo unblock’ and your password… BUT, by unblocking the desktop, it was now opened for anybody to make permanent any change.
  • What if an admin wanted to apply some permanent custom changes on the desktop, and the non-admin users could make only non-permanent changes on that custom desktop?
  • Now that’s possible. Escuelas Linux documents in its Install Manual the use of a new command that will let you as admin to customize the desktop or the look and feel, without letting other users to do permanent changes. So, now you can put your school logo as wallpaper, or change stuff as themes, icons and colors without having to unblock public access computers.
  • Alternative kernels:
  • We include the packages to install the newest kernel 4.9 to date in the debs/other/kernel4.9 directory (for 64 bits) and the last kernel 3.2 in the debs/other/kernel3.2 directory (for 32 bits).
  • Escuelas Linux uses by default kernel 4.4. Nevertheless, there are some circumstances in which could be required a newer kernel to be able to use some new features and/or drivers on new computers, so we ease that task by having at hand the kernel 4.9 for 64 bits. On the other side, we include an old kernel, the 3.2, for 32 bits, because there are old computers that do not work well with recent kernel versions.

New in Escuelas Linux 4.1 (Oct 6, 2015)

  • The iTalc server configuration was non-functional in 4.0 and, to make it work, it needed additional procedures, documented in http://sourceforge.net/p/escuelaslinux/blog/2015/09/a-bug-on-the-italc-master-server-escuelas-linux-40/. This bug is already corrected in Escuelas Linux 4.1, so it wouldn't be needed to run additional procedures.
  • In the installation of an English language pack would not matter if a user chose a battery-enabled system or not, in 4.0 the Install program always installed a battery-enabled system. In Escuelas Linux 4.1, this bug has been solved.
  • The first time you entered GCompris, it would dedicate some time to index its included modules. This was not a serious issue, but was a bit strange to have it in a distribution where everything is already configured. Small issue solved.
  • The Install Manual was updated with some fixes in the documented procedures, and it adds new possible scenarios that will be unique for the 4.x series.

New in Escuelas Linux 3.0.23 (Mar 9, 2015)

  • The new Escuelas Linux graphical installer and updater detect the OS architecture (32 or 64 bits), to prevent an installation mismatch. For example, if somebody make a mistake and try to update with the 64 bits package in a 32 bit base, or if somebody try to install the English 32 bit package in a 64 bit edition of Escuelas Linux, the installer and/or updater will warn you about this situation and will do nothing. Peace of mind.
  • The updater will not work if the computer is not already running Escuelas Linux 3.0.22. In that way, now and in the future we will avoid broken dependencies and package mismatches, created by running an updater that was not created for older versions of our distro.
  • Added in page 45 of the Install manual the command “rm *.deb”, to avoid risky leftover packages on the user account.
  • LibreOffice 4.4.1:
  • The first point release of the new 4.4 series, with A LOT of changes, and better quality of its source code https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.4
  • Softmaker FreeOffice rev 698:
  • A minor update to this office suite, which still is a superb tool to be able to read and write files that came from recent releases of Microsoft Office.
  • Firefox 36:
  • With support to the new http/2 protocol, and for the Linux users it is the first edition that makes visible the “Firefox Hello” icon, the new free video and voice conversation tool powered by Telefónica.
  • Google Chrome 40:
  • This version fixes 62 vulnerability issues.
  • LiveCode 7.0.3:
  • A minor update to this powerful authoring software (We create our graphical installers with it, by the way)
  • Geogebra 5.0.66:
  • As usual, adding more and more mathematical features.
  • Adobe Flash 11.2.202.442:
  • Fixes for some more vulnerabilities found in this still usual program to watch content on the internet.
  • Recordmydesktop is now included, to merely solve a dependency asked by Kdenlive, our main video editor.

New in Escuelas Linux 3.0.22 (Jan 7, 2015)

  • Graphical installer:
  • During a lot of years, the install and configuration of Escuelas Linux was done via a script, which needed to leave the graphical interface, use a terminal and to type with precision some commands. This aspect was a big barrier for people not familiar with the use of text commands in Linux, and the consequence was a perception that it was a distro hard to install. Those times are over. We now present our shiny new graphical installer!
  • With this addition, just click on the “¡Instalar Ahora!"” button to do the install as well as the configuration of Escuelas Linux in either its 32 or 64 bit edition, and just click the “Install Now!” button to setup the English edition of the distro. More simple to install, impossible.
  • The package to update Escuelas Linux 3.0.20/3.0.21 to 3.0.22 version, also has a graphical interface. Even the flagship commands of Escuelas Linux (restoreuser, forceuser and restoreicons) also got its graphical interface.
  • The Install Manual, either in Spanish or English language, was updated to reflect these big changes, and a lot of improvements to document some procedures.
  • There are also important updates in included Escuelas Linux software:
  • LibreOffice 4.3.5, to replace its 4.3.4 version
  • Wine 1.6, to replace its 1.4 version
  • Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.425
  • LiveCode 7.0.1, to replace its 7.0 version
  • Geogebra 5.0.52, to replace its 5.0.32 version
  • TeamViewer 10, to replace its 7.0 version
  • Softmaker FreeOffice rev. 697, to replace rev. 690

New in Escuelas Linux 3.0.21 (Dec 2, 2014)

  • The oficial Escuelas Linux YouTube channel has been created, for now in Spanish language. In it there are already dozens of videotutorials, to show the use of three of our favorite programs: LiveCode, LaTeX and Scribus. The address of our YouTube channel is youtube.com/user/adiazzac
  • Support for setup of Escuelas Linux in Windows 8/8.1 UEFI computers, without the need of an Internet connection.
  • In previous Escuelas Linux versions was needed to have the Windows 8/8.1 computer connected to the Internet in order to do some steps of the setup. That was very hard for people like us, when installing in schools or places without Internet access. We found a workaround to avoid the use of Internet, and it is already documented on the Install Manual.
  • A new Install Manual, where we describe the workaround already mentioned, and a new procedure to install Escuelas Linux on Windows 8/8.1 computers WITH internet access. This change was needed because in the most recent version of the boot-repair program, it does not allow anymore its use in computers running in Legacy Mode.
  • About the new software, it is now preinstalled and preconfigured (as is usual in Escuelas Linux): LibreOffice 4.3.4, GeoGebra 5.0.32 and Google Talk Plugin 5.38.

New in Escuelas Linux 3.0.20 (Nov 11, 2014)

  • Added English language support. Instructions on how to convert the system from Spanish to English is available at https://sourceforge.net/p/escuelaslinux/blog/2014/11/escuelas-linux-3020-english-version/
