Tiny Linux app that allows you to power off, reboot, or suspend your system, as well as get notified by alarms based on a user-input timer. #System Timer #Alarm App #Shutdown Computer #Timer #Shutdown #Power Off
Almost all Linux users and system administrators probably know how to shut down a computer from the command line. Hell, once you understand the basic syntax of the shutdown command for your specific Linux system, you can even add messages prior to the effective shutdown procedure.
However, what if you're not a seasoned Linux veteran and you don't want to use the command line for such a simple task? The answer comes in the form of a GUI app that allows you to do just that, but with clicks instead of commands.
Time Switch is one such tool, a free and open-source app for Linux that allows you to power off, reboot, or suspend your system via a typical timer function.
Time Switch is designed to be as comfortable to use as possible. The GUI is built around GNOME's design elements and uses LibAdwaita which means it looks really modern.
At the top, you get a big and user-friendly timer (that also allows you to add +5 and +10-second and minute increments if you're feeling super lazy).
In the bottom half, you can choose any of the four actions: Power Off, Reboot, Suspend, and Notification. Optionally, you can also use a sound signal for the latter, which should also make this app decently nice for reminding you to take a break, stretch a bit, drink some water, live life, you get the idea.
Once the timer starts, the GUI changes and displays the remaining time until the preferred action takes place. The app should work in the background even if you close the app's window, and, of course, you can stop the whole process by pressing the single button on display, the red Stop button.
Time Switch is a great little application for Linux that allows you to reboot, shut down, or suspend your computer's system without having to deal with the command line. It may not be impressive in any meaningful sense, but it's a pleasure to work with, and it looks really great on most modern desktop environments, which is enough to make it worth your attention.
