Kronometer is an open source and very simple software project designed from the offset to act as a chronometer or stopwatch application for the KDE Software Compilation graphical desktop environment on Linux kernel-based operating systems.

Key features include a stopwatch widget that supports start, pause and resume functionality, lap recording functionality so you can record the stopwatch time whenever you want, sorting of lap times functionality so you can easily find the longest or shortest lap times, as well as reset functionality for both the stopwatch and the recorded lap times.

The application allows the user to choose the correct time format for the stopwatch, save the current status of the stopwatch, in order to resume it at a later time, as well as to export recorder lap times to a file in the CSV (Comma-Separated Values) or XML (Extensible Markup Language) formats.

Kronometer is a fully customizable software, as it allows you to choose which fonts to use for each of the digits of the stopwatch, choose a color for the stopwatch digits, as well as to choose a color for the stopwatch background.

The program is written entirely in the C++ programming language and uses the Qt GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface. It is distributed only as a source archive, which means that users must configure and compile the application prior to installation. Both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures are supported at this time.

Being written in Qt for KDE, Kronometer requires the KDE runtime packages in order to work properly. However, it can also be used on other open-source desktop environments, such as GNOME, Cinnamon, LXDE, LXQt, Xfce or Unity, as long as the required KDE packages are installed.

What's new in Kronometer 2.0.0:

  • Port to Qt5 and KDE Frameworks 5
  • New Breeze icons: app icon and start/pause/reset/lap icons
  • Sessions persistence through a simple Session dialog, instead of XML files
  • Improved the Settings dialog and removed useless settings
