FreeMind is an open source, efficient, portable, fast, multiplatform and easy to use graphical application designed to act as a mind-mapping utility for the GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. It is also an easy-to-operate hierarchical editor.

Key features include a HTML link follower, one-click navigation, folding support, undo, smart drag and drop, including the possibility to copy nodes or copy style of nodes, as well as dragging and dropping of multiple nodes.

With this application you will be able to use and edit long multiline nodes, decorate nodes, and run in on your favorite operating system, smart copying and pasting, as well as exporting of maps to the HTML (HyperText Markup Language) format, with folding.

The software is engineered in such a way that it can follow both local and remote (www) HTML links that are stored in the nodes, offers one-click folding and unfolding functionality, as well as the ability to follow links with a single mouse click.

Among other important features, we can mention the ability to edit long multiline nodes, decorate nodes with built-in colors, fonts and icons, drag & drop of several nodes, and support for copying and pasting text from a variety of documents, including RTF, MS Word, MS Wordpad and MS Outlook.

Another interesting feature is the ability to move map simply by using the mouse wheel or by dragging the map's background. The application comes with a built-in search functionality that allows users to find items, which are displayed one by one as they are found.

The software is written entirely in the Java programming language, which means that it is platform-independent, supported on any operating system where the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is available, including all GNU/Linux distributions and the Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows OSes. It’s compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures.
