If you're the type of person who wants to have a different wallpaper on your desktop each day, but you absolutely hate manually searching for said wallpapers, you might love Damask.

Damask is a free and open-source, Linux-only application that automatically changes your computer's wallpaper.

The short answer is: yes! For starters, Damask currently supports a few of the most popular wallpaper sources such as wallhaven.cc, Microsoft Bing Wallpaper of the day, NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day, and Unsplash.

Secondly, Damask has a pretty sleek and modern-looking GUI. Not only that but it also manages to provide a series of very nice-to-have features and configuration options.

From the Settings section, you can change the refresh interval for the wallpapers, you can toggle the "Run in the background" option on or off, as well as set up the app to start automatically upon login.

What's surprising is the level of control Damask provides in regards to each and every wallpaper source (and their respective API). While some wallpaper sources come with default APIs (such as wallhaven, NASA Astronomy POTD, and Microsoft Bing WOTD), others require you to manually fetch and add the API (Unsplash).

Each wallpaper source has its own bespoke series of configuration options. For instance, you can change the way wallpapers are sorted, you get some basic filtering options, as well as the option to set the source as Query or Collection.

Last but not least, Damask also allows you to create your very own wallpaper collections.

Damask is a very good wallpaper app for Linux both when compared to other similar apps, and in isolation. It looks and feels modern, it comes with support for a few very relevant wallpaper sources, and it provides a very good level of control for the user.

You can change between multiple wallpaper sources, change the refresh interval, change various aspects in regard to how this app works on your system, and even create bespoke wallpaper collections.

What's new in Damask 0.2.1:

  • Select the source row when setting the active source
  • Switches are set to the correct state when bound to preference values
  • Add a placeholder for empty image previews
  • Wallhaven: correctly set top list range sensitivity when selecting "sort by" option
