Regardless of what Linux distribution you're currently running on your computer, finding a good eBook reader is just a matter of patience since there are lots of them out there.

Bookworm is one such eBook reader. It's a free and open-source application and is designed using WebKit, GTK, and Vala. The most important aspect worth noting about Bookworm is that it is designed for Elementary OS.

However, that's not to say that you can't use it on other Linux distributions as well (but more on that later).

Since it was designed for Elementary OS, Bookworm follows Human Interface Guidelines quite nicely. In short, it looks and feels like an Elementary OS should, not too stylish, not to rugged.

Even though it doesn't really look the part, Bookworm is a capable eBook reader app. It comes with support for a plethora of formats such as EPUB, PDF, MOBI, CBR, CBZ, and FB2.

Various views for the library management section, on-the-fly adjustments for the fonts, zoom levels, various reading profiles, two GUI themes, the ability to add bookmark and annotations, keyboard hotkey support, as well as a full screen mode, are just some of the other features that make Bookworm such a good app.

Even though Elementary OS is an Ubuntu-based distribution, you shouldn't expect a perfect user experience while running Bookworm on Ubuntu (and possible other distros, as well).

Even though there are official PPA's for Ubuntu 16.04 upwards, the app doesn't feel entirely stable on Ubuntu (as we've experienced a few random crashes, and some recurring crashes during our tests).

Thankfully, the app's roadmap does hint at the fact that the app will become more "distro agnostic" in the future. Other noteworthy changes might also include the addition of various extra supported formats.

Bookworm is without a doubt a very capable eBook reader application. Sadly, in its current state, it's almost entirely suited for Elementary OS. Still, with a bit of work, we could see it becoming one of the best eBook readers for other Linux distros as well.
