An effective, eye-catching, and engaging GUI can be (and usually) is a part of the recipe of what makes an app successful. Be that as it may, most command-line tools still prove themselves just as useful without relying on a proper GUI.
One such app is Neofetch, a small command-line utility written in Bash 3.2+ that supports somewhere around 150 OSes from Windows and Linux, all the way up to mostly unknown OSes such as Haiku, Minix, and AIX.
Neofetch is one of the simplest system information tools you can use for Linux, and it displays a series of valuable information about your operating system, software, and hardware in a surprisingly visually pleasing way.
The main purpose of Neofetch is to be used in screenshots, as an information tool for the people who are supposed to see the screenshots in question.
It uses the Terminal to display a series of useful information alongside your operating system's logo. Better yet, Neofetch can be configured to display any image, a custom ASCII file, or nothing at all.
Here's a list of parameters that Neofetch displays: OS version + architecture, host, kernel version, uptime, packages, version of Shell, screen resolution, theme, icons, Terminal type, CPU, GPU, and Memory.
The easiest way to install Neofetch is to have a Snap-enabled system. If not, there are tons of useful guides on how to install it on your specific system on the official Wiki page.
By now, it should be quite clear that Neofetch is not what one might call a full-featured system monitor or system information tool. It's just a simple command-line/Terminal-based app that provides a series of useful information in a simple yet eye-pleasing way.
What's new in Neofetch 7.1.0:
- [distro] added support for latest macOS.
